Three years ago today I lost my good friend Beth to lung cancer. She would want me to tell you she was a non smoker. She would tell me to stop being sad, go do something. Unless I had a headache. Then she would worry about me. Ask me if I should call the doctor? "Are you sure you're ok?" And then call me over and over until I felt better. She was good like that.
I miss her.
Lung cancer is extremely underfunded for research. Beth has a great foundation that supports many things. Among them is lung cancer research, Kara's Camp Erin, which is a grief support camp for children who have lost a parent (Beth had 2 year old twins when she passed) and she also supports the library in the school where we both taught.
If you have a second, check out the following links.

Such a tragedy. It never stops being sad, does it? I didn't know her well, but I hear about her all the time at San Miguel. It's nice to see my students open a book with the Beth Longwell Foundation sticker inside. A very cool legacy to leave from a teacher. The gift of reading.
ReplyDeleteCody, I'm so sorry about your loss. My grandfather had lung cancer that spread to his brain and he died at our house when I was 12 or so. It's not easy. Thank you for the post.
